During a recent heartfelt conversation with my wife, Jacqui, she offered insightful perspectives on the relationship between intention and achievement. She pointed out that these two concepts lie at opposite ends of a spectrum. A person may set ambitious goals with strong determination, feeling motivated to turn plans into action and actively participate in the journey toward those objectives. Yet, it’s striking to see that many people abandon their efforts before they can experience success.

Interestingly, this tendency to fall short is often not due to the unreachability of the goals themselves. Instead, it frequently arises from a deeper issue: a failure to undergo an internal transformation that aligns one’s identity with the desired outcome. In other words, without reshaping how we view ourselves and our capabilities, we might struggle to persist on the path to achievement, no matter how motivated we initially are. This distinction suggests that true success involves not just setting goals but also embracing a new way of being that supports those aspirations.

Individuals have the remarkable ability to consciously adopt new identities, cultivating qualities such as greater confidence, assertiveness, or compassion. This transformation requires more than just altering superficial habits; it demands a profound reevaluation of one’s self-perception and worldview. Who you want to be is not a hard choice because your imagination can take you into that space anytime you are happy, just to let your creative juices and imagination flow. An excellent place to start before unleashing your creative juices and imagination is the centrepiece of the puzzle: your ‘why’.

In Simon Sinek’s “Finding Your Why,” the focus is on identifying one’s core purpose in life. The process involves three key steps:

  • Gathering and sharing personal stories
  • Identifying recurring themes.
  • Drafting a concise why statement that reflects one’s contribution and impact.

This statement serves as a crucial guiding principle, encouraging individuals to align their actions with their more profound sense of purpose. Simon Sinek emphasises that grasping your “why”—the core reason behind your actions and aspirations—significantly enriches personal fulfilment. It cultivates stronger relationships in the workplace, allowing individuals to communicate their mission with clarity and passion.

By delving into the essence of their motivations, individuals can articulate their unique contributions to the world, fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration. Ultimately, the journey to uncovering your “why” is depicted as vital for leading a meaningful life, granting clarity and a sense of direction across all aspects of life, whether personal or professional. My health journey, including near-death experiences, is not unique to me; based on my research, many people in our population face similar challenges. My story of reversing various medical conditions is one of hope. I want everyone who can read and hear to understand that my failure to recognise the dangers of my choices—and the consequences that followed—has not only shortened my life but has also caused unnecessary pain and suffering for the people I love and who love me.

Dreams and aspirations are fundamental to our personal growth and development. While dreams are our cherished ideals, aspirations represent the concrete steps towards achieving them. They provide direction, motivation, and inspiration in our lives. We can turn our aspirations into reality by visualising our goals, sharing them for support, and working consistently towards them.
